Mysterious poems appear in Prague. They are picked up by a woman who wants to pull people out of gray
In recent weeks, Praguers may come across a number of places on mysterious poems with a QR code. Their author wants to return to them the well-known idea that art belongs to closed galleries. With short texts that he pastes on the streets, he communicates with strangers and pulls them out of everyday life and the feeling of an alienated city. They receive positive feedback for the poems, and people also actively seek them out, similar to caches.
“Art, like public space, is for everyone. That’s why I find relevant poems in places like trash cans, trash cans or near public transport stops,” says an art student who works on Instagram as @prahoproject.
He does not want to declassify his true identity. “I believe that this is the fact that helps those who respond to the poems, feel safe and share everything they have at heart,” he says.
In the lyrics, I remember current moments, personal, but also, for example, love or humility. “People often write to me that they write the poems in a similar way or that they find themselves in them in some way, which makes me very happy. That’s one of the purposes of the project,” he says.
In six weeks, the author received over 1,500 responses. Some are also very personal and with sensitive information or requests for help. “Due to the nature of some of the statements, we are currently working to establish cooperation with an as yet unnamed psychological counseling center that would help us deal with more difficult statements,” he explains.
Poems are often hidden from view and you only come across them by chance, for example while waiting for the bus. From December, the project will be moved to more visible places – the poems will be part of subway cars, billboards or various art magazines.
