Black Friday turnover in Portugal down 8.4% compared to the pre-pandemic period – O Jornal Económico
The turnover of Black Friday in Portugal registered a decrease of 8.4% compared to the year 2019 that preceded the Covid-19 pandemic, according to data from the company REDUNIQ released this Thursday, December 2nd .
Data from the national network of national and foreign card acceptance indicate that on the last weekend of Black Friday, between December 26 and 28, business fell 0.5% of the volume presented in 2019. On the other hand, transactions saw an increase of 7.7% on Black Friday, 14.2% over the weekend and 24.4% for a week.
Appliances and technology, fashion, stationery / bookstores and perfumeries were the segments that on Fridays in November saw growth above 100%, with a negative performance, however, compared to Black Friday in 2019, with falls of more than 30%.
In terms of shopping hours, the only ones that had an increase in billing compared to 2019 were from 00h-01h, 08h-09h, 17h-18h and 18h-19h, and at 00:00h they achieved a growth of 185%, having reached the peak between 17h-18h, this time representing a weight of 8.8%, without the total of the day.
On the rise were also transactions made through no contact which in 2019 was 16.4%, 53.1% in 2020 and 69.1% in 2021.
Tiago Oom, director of REDUNIQ, explains that “these results force the purchase that, despite spending less, the Portuguese made, on average, more purchases, leading the average price to decrease from 45.69 euros to 38.87 euros on the day of Black Friday”.
