Toulouse: A secret woman strolling on a Carmelite facade
Urban artist Joël Martial places his signature on a Carmelite store. Unpublished.
This Wednesday, passers-by were able to discover three long canvases (2.40 m X 1.05 m), delicately placed along the facade of the Par Katie Nat sign, Place Rouaix aux Carmes. And the artist, Joël in balance trying to unroll them. “I discovered this amateur artist quite by chance,” admits Katie Monnier, responsible for this brand. I was immediately won over by his work. So I gave him carte blanche for these celebrations to illustrate my facade ”.
A very feminine theme representing a woman in three different situations: on the phone to take a selfie, going down a staircase to get to a meeting and her arrival at the place. “I chose a theme that corresponds to this refined and quite glamorous brand,” explains Joël, long-distance runner and works supervisor. Three paintings for a place on which I write a story and in which everyone reads what they want ”.
A sane artist who follows the news
An identical signature for this artist who has always been passionate about painting and drawing. “This passion took on its full extent during confinement,” he admits. A forced rest during which I threw myself into it ”.
Last summer, as usual, he invested in somewhat abandoned places in the city: below a bridge, areas left fallow or degraded walls. After going there, Joël takes the measurements and starts in his workshop, his research around comic book heroes who are supposed to embrace different spaces at the same time. A sensitive artist who listens to the news. Some time ago, in the small rue Marthe Varsi in Saint-Cyprien, he had denounced feminicides through three posters: the bad meeting, the violence suffered by a woman in a green dress and finally the support of a other woman. “For this wild display, I was inspired by an association inscription near the Abattoirs which said:” alcohol does not excuse everything “.
For this last work, it is lightness and a touch of carelessness that predominate around this woman who is both mysterious and singular.
