South Tyrolean student residence in Vienna, the Province participates in the reorganization
The student in Vienna, The “Tirolerheim“, has been offering accommodation for many years, as well as to students from North and East Tyrol, also to students from South Tyrol during their study period.
The structure is of property of the Land of Tyrol. In recent years, more than a quarter of the 130 available places have been filled by university students from South Tyrol. In the academic year 2021/2022 South Tyrol’s share for maintenance work is 30%. In the next years Tyrol intends to continue or resume the renovations in the different rooms of the boarding school. It involves the purchase of furniture and equipment, as well as the transformation and completion of the building.
To ensure that Tyrol continues to make low-cost accommodation available to South Tyrolean students in the city of Vienna, today (30 November) on the proposal of the councilor Philipp Achammer, the provincial government has decided to contribute to these investment costs. To this end, the Province of Bolzano in an agreement with the Tyrol has given the green light for the years from 2022 to 2025. Over the next three years South Tyrol will participate in the renovation costs with 36,800 euros per year, while in 2025 it will contribute 36,000 euros.
The commissioner recalls that the offer of places falls within the right to education and constitutes a “fundamental duty of the Province. The allocation of places in Vienna’s university students is one of the measures adopted by South Tyrol to promote higher education and grant students access to German-speaking universities“, Achammer points out.
