San Marino, the future lies in the organic sector – Ambient & Ambienti
The small and ancient Republic is preparing to become the first organic state in the world
Tourism, finance and now also organic. The future is bright for the smallest state (just over 61 km2) which is the oldest in Europe. According to tradition, San Marino was founded in 301 AD, and since 2008 the historic center of the city and Mount Titano have been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Centuries later, the people of San Marino have not lost their sense of being “first in their class” and in fact are preparing to be the first organic state in the world.
The QCertifications. Company of the multinational Bureau Veritas group of certification and controls will accompany the small state as a protagonist in the path of organic conversion. For the territory this is a historic turning point because a state entirely devoted to organic becomes automatically a flag and a point of reference for all the others.
The agreement with the EU that opens up to new scenarios
“Actually – he says Fabio Bianchiardi of QCertifications – San Marino has long ago decided on this process especially as regards agriculture. The organic path for the small state opens up interesting prospects also and above all at an economic level. San Marino, on the basis of this path, managed to snatch a respectable agreement from the EU. In fact, despite not being a member state, the agreement stipulated provides that everything that is organically produced in San Marino can be marketed in other European countries “.
New scenarios are thus opening up for the agricultural supply chain of San Marino: grapes, wine, olive trees, cereals, fruit, vegetables and truffles can be exported and tasted in every EU member state.
Tourism, nature and products of excellence: this is the future
The final goal is not only to encourage organic consumption of all food facilities in San Marino such as school and company canteens, restaurants and hospitals but, as the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Territory and Tourism underlined in a press conference, Augusto Michelotti, enhance the work that the “Consorzio Terre di San Marino” has carried out and will carry out.
Quality tourism, unspoiled nature and excellent gastronomy: the future is already present on the Rocca del Titano.
