The theater director fulfills the goals listed in the theater charter and is responsible for the daily work process and long-term development of the theater, as well as for the targeted use of the theater’s funds.
Requirements for the candidate: many years (at least 5 years) experience in managing a large cultural institution; extensive knowledge of Estonian cultural history, including theater history; the ability to independently draw up a budget and an annual report; very good knowledge of Estonian and Russian; good oral and written self-expression skills; decision-making ability and responsibility, as well as integrity and accuracy; ability to analyze and initiative; personal qualities focused on teamwork; experience in the management and development of objects of cultural value.
It is noted that previous experience of working with Russian-speaking cultural groups and experience of conscience of economic and creative goals are also needed.

The current director of the Russian Theater, Margus Allikmaa, will head the Capital of Culture Foundation from February 1, 2022.
Allikmaa previously worked at the Estonian Drama Theater, including eight years at the head of the theater, was the CEO of AS Trio LSL. In 2007-2017, he became the head of the Estonian National Television and Radio Broadcasting (ERR), and in 2018 he became the director of the Russian Theater.
