Prague wants to install 20,000 roofs with solar panels. Their recycling must be addressed in the future
How long will thirty last and not have a problem with their recycling in twenty or years?
Brno, South Moravian, plans to put photovoltaic panels for more than a billion crowns on its homes. It should appear on hundreds of roofs within five years. The first is already beginning.
Solar panels should reduce the amount of fuel released into the air. They should be in schools, nursing homes or clinics. As Deputy Filip Leder from KDU-ČSL explains, residents and the city should save on electricity.
“In the context of the energy crisis, and it’s not just about reducing CO2 emissions, everyone will be interested in the savings. Especially for the life of the panels, these people will have a stable price, thirty years.”
Prague wants to have a community solar power plant by 2030
Prague is even preparing its own solar power plant. By 2030, it wants to build 500 megawatts of community solar power plants on the roofs of city and private houses. Is it a lot or a little?
“I think it’s the right number, it’s a start. Prague is much more complicated for electricity generation than a small municipality. Although it may seem small in the context of Prague’s total consumption, it’s a start and the potential is here. much bigger, “ noted Jan Freidinger from Greenpeace.
The city established the Prague Renewable Energy Community due to the power plant. As its boss Ladislav Klusák reminded, the company is built on three pillars.
“The installation has an economic advantage. It is better for residents to use cheaper photovoltaic electricity, the second pillar is an environmental benefit, they have the opportunity to reduce CO2 in the climate plan and the third pillar is based on the transaction costs or operating costs associated with the installation they go through the Prague Renewable Energy Community. “
We want to install up to 20,000 roofs
It is possible to apply for subsidy titles for preparation. The city will also have to take into account the monuments. Prague is the first city in the Czech Republic to embark on large-scale community electricity generation from local renewable sources.
“The goal is to have up to 20,000 roofs installed by 2030. The first two city apartment buildings will be installed on the Black Bridge. Just for information, we have about 130,000 roofs in Prague. Of these, 6,000 are owned by the city and city districts. “In the future, there will be better technology for battery storage. I believe that this is the way that can fundamentally help us in Prague.” added Petr Hlubuček (STAN), Deputy Mayor for the Environment.
In 2050, there will be 4 billion depreciation panels
With the development of solar panels, it is necessary to ask the question of how their life is. And what about them? When good conditions are created, they can work for 25 to 30 years. Many of the panels that were installed twenty years ago are coming to an end.
As the ekolist.cz website wrote, in 2050 we will have at least 4 billion solar panels for depreciation, weighing a total of 78 million tons. The panels are not designed to extract the necessary elements, says Matthew Davies, a technologist at the University of Swansea.
Currently, the only way to use obsolete solar panels is to machine them. According to Davies, we recycle less than 1% of the usable volume of the thirty rarest metals and minerals, elements that we cannot do without when building sustainable energy.
