OM, new runner-up for PSG, Lille reassures itself in Rennes, Lyon relapses
Often beside his pumps since his arrival at OM this summer, Gerson has never lost the support of Jorge Sampaoli, who had made his recruitment a condition for his place. Holder for the tenth time of the season in Ligue 1 in Nantes, in an unusual role of false number nine, the Brazilian (24) has finally scored points in the game and intensity. But above all he scored a capital goal, the only one of the match, with a remarkable pivoting strike on a cross from Dimitri Payet (30th).
A sign of renewed confidence, we have also seen him attempt – and succeed – a blind pass love to launch Mattéo Guendouzi against Alban Lafont (58th). Reduced to ten in the 32nd minute after the expulsion of Nicolas Pallois, the Canaries only got their heads out of the water in the last quarter of an hour, without managing to worry Pau Lopez. This short victory allows OM to steal the runner-up place of PSG in Rennes, which fell against Lille (1-2).
Lille brings Rennes down from its cloud
Bruno Genesio expects a shock “Champions League level” against Lille (1-2), and Rennes paid dearly for its lack of realism (10 shots, 2 on target). Unbeaten for 13 matches in all competitions, the Rouge et Noir confiscated the ball from the French champions (71% in the second half, 65% over the entire match). But it was already too late when Benjamin Bourigeaud finally found the loophole in the 85th minute, on a Doku cross deflected by Xeka. Because the success was northerner: lacking confidence in the Championship, the Mastiffs did not miss their chance in the first period, when Xeka (31st, 1-0) and Renato Sanches (45th, 2-0) took turns took advantage of the apathy of the Breton defense to deceive Gomis. Expelled, Genesio ended up in the stand. Rennes is now 3rd, Lille 12th.
Lyon relapses in the last minutes against Reims
If Lyon had not really convinced despite his victory in Montpellier (1-0) Sunday, Anthony Lopes, he had been brilliant. But the Portuguese goalkeeper did not have the same success on Wednesday, in the anonymity of a closed session against Reims (1-2). Unable to capture a full-ax strike from Filips, he pushed the ball back into the feet of Ekitike, who did not ask for so much to offer an unexpected victory to the visitors at the end of added time (90th + 3, 2-1) .
Dominant but clumsy, like Aouar (36th) or Guimaraes (61st), OL had to fight to equalize – by Toko Ekambi (66th, 1-1) – after the opening of the score of Faes, quicker than Denayer on a corner from Berisha (56th). So he ended up bowing and remains stuck in the soft belly (10th).
Lens can no longer do it, Clermont breathes
In the hard since the return of the international break, Lens has not found a cure for his defensive ailments in Clermont (2-2). If they quickly opened the scoring on a cross from Fofana diverted into his own but by Gastien (12th, 1-0), the Sang et Or suffered the onslaught of their opponents from Auvergne (19 shots, 15 centers in the game) from start to finish. Less prominent lately, the home scorer Mohamed Bayo ended up snatching a draw (65th, 2-2) in a spectacular match marked in particular by the expulsion of his teammate Yadaly Diaby (84th). This point allows Clermont to end a five-game losing streak and move up to 17th place, while Lens (5th) continues to trample.
