Lando Norris will move to Monaco and explain himself
Lando Norris will be leaving England to settle in Monaco, but says it won’t change much… except, perhaps, for his wallet.
Monaco is the most popular destination for Formula 1 drivers as a permanent home, and Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Daniel Ricciardo (among others) will soon be joined by the Australian’s teammate, Lando norris.
Protected from Mclaren since 2017, Norris had lived for a long time in the town of Guildford, 15 kilometers from the McLaren Technology Center, before moving even closer last year. If he still declared last April his life in Surrey to that which would wait in Monaco, the Briton obviously ended up giving in to the sirens of the Principality. He says, however, that this will not change much in his daily life.
“There was still a lot to gain for me and my career from being at McLaren and being able to get there whenever I wanted.”, comments Norris about his first seasons in Formula 1, him who will conclude his third. “As soon as a weekend goes badly, I can go there any day to test things on the simulator, talk to my engineers, etc.”
“And I love England. It probably remains my favorite place. I have my family, my friends there. And I think I’ve said many times that for me, having fun, especially in what I do, is a priority over this kind of decision. So it is not an easy decision. And it’s not something to choose from for many years. I just think I’m in a comfortable enough situation right now to make that decision and take the time to move there. “
“I will still be able to see a lot of my friends, and my family will be visiting me. So a lot of things are going to stay exactly the same. It’s just that I’ll live in a different place. Maybe I won’t play. so much golf, which is probably the biggest drawback. But there are a few places around where I can go and play. Anyway, not an easy decision. consequence. “
This contrasts sharply with the words of the person concerned in The Sun in April, when he indicated: “I’m happy in Surrey, enjoying the cold British weather and playing golf. It’s just about having fun, I guess, spending time with my friends and seeing my family whenever I want, it’s all easy and i enjoy it. I just want to live my life normally. If I moved to Monaco, I wouldn’t appreciate it. I don’t do my job in F1 without appreciating the things around. “
That the Principality has tax advantages plays a significant role in this decision; Norris doesn’t hide it, and expects criticism: “Of course, I will understand, and there will be, for sure”, he admits. “But people do a lot of things in life for money. This is just another.”
Very present in the world of gaming, the Englishman in any case intends to continue his activities in this field, while being even more present than before in Woking. “I will be able to continue to stream on Twitch and so on. My interaction with the fans isn’t going to change at all. Max has done a few streams, so that side isn’t going to change. I think everything I do in the The number of days I spend at McLaren in particular is probably going to be higher than last year due to many new rules. [liées au COVID]”, he ends.
