Allegra will win a temporary contract, a competition for a carrier for 15 years with new trains is being prepared.
From December 2023, Czech Railways, together with a subsidiary of the Austrian Federal Railways ÖBB Allegra Deutschland, is to provide connections between Prague and Munich. It will thus replace Die Länderbahn, which is still a partner of Czech Railways on this line and operates trains in Bavarian territory under the Alex brand.
The Bavarian client Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG) chose Allegru to operate in Germany, he announced today in a press release. It will be a transitional contract for a maximum of five years, after which the trains on this route should be operated by a single carrier that emerges from the open competition. Further details of the BEG publication after the ten-day objection period.
According to the agreement of the Czech Ministry of Transport and the BEG, both parties automatically respect who they choose as the carrier in their territory. In practice, sets with cars from a newly selected carrier should also appear in the Czech territory. Czech Railways is still waiting for the result of the competition process in Germany.
BEG decided to announce a competition for temporary operation due to dissatisfaction with the quality of the companies and adherence to the Die Länderbahn timetable. In addition to the Munich – Czech border section, BEG competed with the operation of trains from Munich to Hof, where DB Regio will take over the operation on the Die Länderbahn.
The result of the competition in Bavaria shows that the operation of trains in obligatory transport also attracts another large state carrier. Allegra has not been in any competition as ÖBB’s daughter yet, ÖBB only won a joint contract with ZSSK in Slovakia for the operation of trains from Bratislava to Komárno.
