Debrecen represented Hungary at the international environmental conference – with a video
Budapest – Hungarian, Polish, Czech and Slovak cities discussed various green solutions at the Planet Budapest 2021 Sustainability Expo and World Meeting. Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs spoke about the Debrecen2030 program and the city’s new environmental policy.
The water of the Tisza in the Civaqua program will arrive in Debrecen through the Eastern Main Canal. Ákos Balázs also mentioned this among the sustainable steps of the county seat at the meeting in Budapest, at the Planet Budapest 2021 Sustainability Expo and World Meeting.
According to the deputy mayor, it is important that Hungary organizes an sustainability expo, and at the same time the city is acknowledged that it has been invited to do so. He emphasized that it was important for the region to think together with the Visegrád four, he tried to convey the approach represented by the new environmental policy announced by the Debrecen2030 program.
– The Green Working Group and the Future of Debrecen movement have also been launched, with the aim of getting to know the citizens, integrating them into urban development programs and enabling green aspects to be reflected in all our urban development.
– Ákos Balázs pointed out.
At the conference, the deputy mayors of Debrecen, Brno, Košice and Łódź discussed the development of the smart city structure. As has been said, cities in V4 countries face similar challenges. According to Adam Pustelnik, Deputy Mayor of Łódź, Poland, the implementation of sustainable plans is often hampered by the short-term effects they would have. He cited the change in transport culture as an example, which he cites as an obvious tool in the West.
– People in Central and Eastern Europe love cars. This is simply because we had less time to enjoy the benefits of capitalism than those in the West, so it is very difficult to compare the Hungarian, Slovak, Czech or Polish systems, say, the Dutch, said the deputy mayor of Łódź.
He added that each city needs to find its own characteristics to stand out. Planet Budapest 2021 Sustainability Expo and World Meeting, which promotes green solutions, lasts until Sunday.
