Would you think there are fewer accidents on the roads in winter than in summer? – with video
Debrecen – Where is the fog lamp, what to look for in winter tires? István Suba gave useful advice.
Foggy mornings, torrential rain, slippery, icy roads can be expected in the next period. In winter, motorists face greater challenges. István Suba provided useful accident prevention advice on Debrecen Television’s Evening Close-up. The secretary of the Hajdú Bihor County Accident Prevention Committee said that the most dangerous factors that we do not expect, such as spotted icing on dry roads.
“This is the period when we have to expect slippage at all stages,” István Suba emphasized. He added that the speed should still be chosen so that we can handle the car safely. On the steering movements, in the corners, you can feel how much the car’s tires are sticking: if they don’t stick, you have to slow down. He underlined that speed should be chosen well, because unreasonably slow progress is not regular either. As has been said,
if you have the right tires on your car, you should not cause an accident if you drive near the speed limit.
According to István Suba, it is useless in vain for someone to drive with summer tires at that time: the milder autumn weather suddenly turned into a colder winter.
– We recommend seven during the use of winter tires, which will be much cold this week. It is also worth paying attention to the condition of the tires: it is important how old they are, how hard the tire is, how deep the ribs are. Whoever can, do not delay the exchange, the secretary said. He added: before the season, around the rubber band, it’s worth a closer look at this.
The fog light should only be used when it is justified outside a populated area, so as not to disturb other road users, István Suba underlined.
The fog lamp is located below the dipped headlights, its condition and cleanliness should also be checked.
Keeping the windows and windshields clean is also very important, if they are not in order, it increases the risk of accidents.
You have to drive very carefully on icy roads: if you suddenly find yourself on it, it’s worth taking your foot off the accelerator so you can slow down with the engine brakes. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) helps prevent slipping, but this is not a full guarantee. It can cause a more pleasant problem, and in some cases, proper counter-steering is not the answer either.
As has been said, there are fewer accidents on the roads in winter: according to István Suba, this is due to the fact that motorists drive with greater peace and speed in summer, take more risks, while in winter risk-taking decreases.
In this case, there are more stuttering, materially harmful accidents, less car accidents with personal injuries.
