This Tuesday, November 30, the day Joséphine Baker entered the Pantheon, the City of Dijon paid tribute to her at the eponymous school located 8, rue Turgot.

The Joséphine-Baker nursery and elementary schools in the city are the result of the merger of the Tivoli and Turgot schools, decided by the municipal council in June 2015. “The process of choosing the new name was very open and in close association with the parents’ organizations, ”explained Nathalie Koenders, the first PS assistant to the mayor of Dijon, also mother of two children attending this school at the time of the merger. These two establishments, which welcome a total of nearly 270 students “illustrate social diversity on a daily basis, in line with the image of Dijon, an inclusive city”, supported Christophe Berthier, deputy in charge of the fight against discrimination and for social dialogue. . For his part, Franck Lehenoff, deputy mayor in charge of education, added: “The name of Josephine Baker could not be better chosen, in a desire to promote gender equality, but also civic engagement ”.
