Salzburg defense chief Wöber will be out until the end of the year
Football champions Red Bull Salzburg will have to do without defender Maximilian Wöber for the rest of the autumn season and thus also in the decisive Champions League group game against their ex-club FC Sevilla. The 23-year-old central defender suffered a torn muscle fiber in his left calf while warming up before the Bundesliga match at Austria Klagenfurt (1: 2), a club spokesman confirmed on Tuesday.
Due to the injury, Wöber will definitely not be able to play a game until the end of the year. The ÖFB team player not only missed the two final Bundesliga home games of the table leaders 2021 against TSV Hartberg (December 4th) and WSG Tirol (December 11th), but also the CL showdown against Sevilla. With a point win next Wednesday (December 8th) at home against the Andalusians, Salzburg would fix their first round of 16 participation in the premier class.
In addition to Wöber, Jerome Onguene was also out of central defense in Klagenfurt at the weekend. Kamil Piatkowski therefore made a comeback alongside Oumar Solet earlier than planned after his ankle injury. Who will form the defensive duo on Saturday against Hartberg and on Wednesday against Sevilla was initially open. Onguene is still in doubt for the weekend because of his adductor problems.
