“We did not plan any fireworks this year either, but we were considering alternative ways to welcome the new year. We were waiting for the epidemic situation and the anti-epidemic situation to develop. Given the current situation, we abandoned the planned activities,” said Hofman.

Due to the current epidemic situation and the valid measures taken by the municipality, no other welcoming of the new year is planned. “We would not be able to guarantee the safety of visitors with regard to the transmission of the disease at such an event, and it would be difficult to ensure the spectators’ distances,” Hofman added.
The New Year’s Eve did not take place on January 1 this year either. In the past, the city traditionally welcomed the new year on January 1 with fireworks, which from January 1, 2020 replaced the projection on buildings, which according to the city management has no negative consequences, such as noise and stress for animals.
