Nature comes to the city. A Ramonville-Saint-Agne, near Toulouse, the Étoile du Sud residence will soon welcome a urban micro-forest on a surface of 400 m². From December 16 to 19, 2021, the inhabitants (but not only!) Will be able to participate in its planting.
A plantation based on a Japanese method
Behind this project financed by the co-owners, we found Adrien calou, himself a resident at the Étoile du Sud and patron of the company Yes Forests who will organize the planting of 1,200 trees and shrubs (24 different essences).
“We plant according to the Miyawaki method, named after the Japanese botanist (Akira Miyawaki, editor’s note) who invented it. It aims to optimize the growth of the forest. It involves preparing the soil in advance. Depending on its richness, different amendments are made with enrichments such as manure, wood chips, etc. They are mixed with the soil at a depth of 50 to 70 cm in order to aerate the soil and optimize the growth of the roots and therefore of the trees “.
According to him, this micro-forest offers 100 times more biodiversity than most French forests which are “all too often cultivated with single species”.
An ecological and educational interest
Adrien Calu adds that the Ramonville-Saint-Agne plantation will have a significant ecological role since it must allow the absorption of eight tonnes of CO2 by a.
Beyond this aspect, this forest will be used to permeabilize soils to fight against floods and create a island of freshness in this residence. UN educational panel will also be installed to retrace the history and ecological role of this micro-forest.
In order to educate as many people as possible, Adrien Calu organized a participatory event. December 16 to 19, the inhabitants but also those who wish to participate in the planting. “Snacks and hot drinks will be offered on site! », Specifies the company manager.
