The working group for cultural activities of the Municipality of Naples is at work. Informally, because it’s not about paid positions, but at work. At present, in fact, there is only an invitation from the mayor to interested parties for a “qualified contribution” for the preparation of a cultural piano in the city of Naples. But there have already been several meetings via streaming of the members – at the moment six – of what Manfredi defined as the «control room for Culture». Sergio Locoratolo, to whom the mayor has entrusted the coordination of all the proxies he has kept for himself. Stefano Consiglio interfaces with Locoratolo, who in this phase is playing a coordinating role in the working group. Director of the Department of Social Sciences at Federico II, that of the Council is the name circulated with great insistence in the preparation phase of the junta just as a possible councilor for culture, before Gaetano Manfredi decided to keep the council’s delegation for himself. Obviously, the last word on the decisions, of course, rests with the former Minister for the University. Vincenzo Trione, art critic, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Tourism at the IULM in Milan, is also part of the patrol at work to plan the cultural strategies of the Municipality of Naples. Among his various publications, the “History of Contemporary Art” just published by Trecccani.
Towards the first meeting with the mayor
Then there is Gennaro Carillo, professor of philosophy at both Federico II and Sister Orsola Benincasa, co-director of Salerno Literature, curator of cultural reviews such as that of Herculaneum «Gli idzi di Ercole». Also part of the control room for Culture is Francesca Amirante, candidate in the Democratic Party for the recent municipal, art historian, creator of the “Museum project”, an initiative that became online during the lock down periods for Covid: one one of his projects was «Welcoming artfully for the relaunch of Naples», art history courses given to taxi drivers, ticket agents, airport workers, to whom Amirante taught how to explain the city to tourists. Also contributing is the lawyer Ferdinando Tozzi, president of the Music Commission, undoubtedly one of the leading experts in copyright in Italy. And finally, there is Andrea Mazzucchi, head of the humanistic studies department of Federico II, director of the Higher Education School in the history and philology of manuscripts and ancient books, established at the Girolamini. However, it is not excluded that soon others may join the control room. But soon, the mayor will meet the group to make a first point on the state of the art and its strategic lines. Not before, however, having had the certainty that the State intervenes to save the accounts of the Municipality of Naples.
