Housing policy – Berlin – Real estate lobby does not believe in new housing construction targets – Politics
Berlin (dpa / bb) – The real estate lobby considers the housing construction goals of the new red-green-red coalition in Berlin to be unattainable. “The goal of 20,000 new apartments does not pass the reality check,” said the state chairman of the IVD – Die Immobilienunternehmer, Kerstin Huth. “The coalition puts far too many stones in its own way for that. It wants to build, but basically not in open spaces,” said Huth. “It wants transformation, compression and increase, but not too dense or too high. Ultimately, that can only lead to a business like this.”
According to IVD President Jürgen Michael Schick, the housing supply in Berlin WILL not increase due to his view of wrong political decisions. “While Die Ampel im Bund is relying on a systematic expansion of supply through new construction with moderate adjustments to tenancy law, in Berlin it will be the case that supply will remain scarce,” he said. “As a result, the screw of the rent regulation is further turned. If the mistakes of the past are caused, a restart can only fail.”
The SPD, the Greens and the Left in Berlin presented their coalition agreement for the next five years on Monday.
