LONDON, November 30 (Reuters) – Deutsche Bahn’s [RIC:RIC:DBN.UL] The Schenker logistics unit will order nearly 1,500 electric trucks from newly launched Volta Trucks to transport goods from European terminals to city centers and metropolitan areas, the companies said on Tuesday.
DB Schenker will use prototypes of electric trucks during the spring and summer of 2022 in the distribution business, the results of which will be used in the production of 1,470 electric trucks.

The electric trucks will run at 10 DB Schenker locations in five countries.
The companies did not immediately provide information on the value of the transaction.
Stockholm-based Volta Trucks, which is also active in the UK, plans to start production of Volta Zero, a 16-ton electric truck, in 2022.
A ban on commercial vehicles with fossil fuels will come into force in some European cities in the next few years, which will put pressure on logistics providers to find zero-emission alternatives.
“The large-scale partnership with Volta Trucks allows us to significantly increase the pace of electrification of our fleet and invest in greener transport solutions,” said Cyrille Bonjean, DB Schenker’s executive vice president for land transport in Europe, in a statement.
DB Schenker has approximately 74,200 employees in over 130 countries.
The latest order includes Volta Trucks’ order book of approximately 4,500 electric trucks. The previous largest public order was for 1,000 trucks, from the French refrigerated truck company Petit Forestier.
