A BALL – Jorge Tinoco European Pool Champion: gold for Portugal! (billiards)
The Portuguese Jorge Tinoco was crowned this Tuesday night’s European champion in the discipline of ‘Straight Pool’ (or ’14 +1 ‘) at the European Senior Pool Championships (players over 40 years old), by winning the German Reiner Wirsbitzki by 75-30 in the final of the competition organized by the European Pocket Billiards Federation (EPBF) and which takes place in Treviso (Italy)
After beating Swede Mahmut Mutto 75-6 in the quarter-finals and having secured, with his presence in the semi-finals, the first medal for Portugal – there is no 3rd and 4th place game, reach the ‘ socks ‘guaranteed at least’ bronze ‘-, the Algarve, from Lagos, and athlete of P. Ferreira, had already qualified for the final that same day and assured at least silver, by beating the Norwegian Didrik in the ‘ socks’ Vatne, Henrique Correia’s executioner in the ‘quarters, by 75-34.
Reiner Wirsbitzki had secured a final by beating compatriot Steffen Gross 75-38 in the other semi-final. Jorge Tinoco’s dream began on Monday, when he had four streak victories at the start of the journey: 75-59 against German Tino Hohman, 75-57 against Italian Riccardo Sini, 75-13 against Finnish Ville-Vesa Virtanen and 75-58 to Swede Fredrik Norqvist in the ’round of 16′. There were seven victories all the way to gold, in a competition that brought together 62 participants!
