Toulouse: these students with disruptive and violent behavior that degenerate the school climate
National education and teachers are often helpless in the face of some disruptive and violent students whose behavior poisons the school climate.
How to behave in the face of “disruptive” students? For some, the term is even a mild euphemism as violent children, who are violent for multiple reasons, are more and more often distinguished in schools in Toulouse and in the department.
Putting the whole institution up against the wall. Teachers, who face it every day, are on the front lines who do not always recover. Just like this teacher from Georges Lapierre school in Tournefeuille, who recently went on “personal arrest”, exhausted from having to manage a six-year-old student who clearly had “aggressive and seriously disruptive behavior”. According to parents of distraught students who reported.
Last June, it was the parents of students from Lespinasse primary school who demanded the “support” of an 8-year-old student accused of “sowing discord” in the establishment.
“He follows the young girls to the toilet, hits the adults, throws the bags out of the windows and disrupts the lessons.” […] He even tried to strangle an institute. Some have stopped, ”summed up representatives of parents of exasperated students.
The problem, marginal in schools, does not date from yesterday in Toulouse. But in 2019, the former academic director of the national education services (Dasen) of Haute-Garonne Elisabeth Laporte had worked on the establishment of a “departmental protocol for the management of complex student situations. with behavioral difficulties ”.
Because the school of the Republic, she recalled, “must welcome all students and preserve a school climate ensuring good learning conditions for all. “
“They are very few”
“However, continued the Dasen, some students, very few and among the most fragile, express their difficulties by adopting inappropriate behavior: non-compliance with the rules, insults, threats, verbal or physical violence, repeated, frequent, towards others. students and adults. It therefore becomes difficult to maintain, for these students and their classmates, a climate favorable to academic success ”.
As long as the coordination of the different services can be effective within the “district resource pole”, the difficulties can last for teachers faced with uncontrollable pupils. An experience lived, a few years ago, for a school teacher who found herself totally destitute. She testifies on condition of anonymity.
“It’s hard to talk about it,” she says, “because he’s a child who is, despite his behavior, very intelligent. But completely unpredictable, able to go wild if he misses something and stand up to me in front of his comrades. Impossible to exclude him from the class, because he was able to leave school in the middle of the day. Once back in his place, he would start over. But I have always spoken to him politically so as not to give in to his verbal violence ”.
The Lapierre school in Tournefeuille, a textbook case
A CE1 class that no longer functions normally is what the students of Georges Lapierre school in Tournefeuille are currently experiencing. Since the start of the September school year, some families have complained of an “intolerable” climate of violence, a consequence of the behavior of two 6-year-old students who have seriously disrupted the school climate of this neighborhood elementary school.
“We were struck by a lot of parents in several classes. We made several couriers. Some children have very serious, getting worse and worse, ”indicated an elected FCPE in these columns at the end of October.
A case that has lasted since the start of the school year
The parents of the students declared their fed up at the end of October, and also published on social networks a letter addressed to the management of the Georges Lapierre school and to the academic inspectorate of Haute-Garonne to put in broad daylight “their deep disarray in the face of an extremely serious situation”. At the departmental level, the FCPE31 now wishes to bring a little serenity to the debates.
“Since the start of the school year, some parents have complained about the school climate in a class and repeated violence. The school’s FCPE heard both the distress and the discontent of the parents by alerting the school administration, the district inspector as well as the rectorate to find solutions so that the education of all takes place in the best possible conditions. Every child has the right to go to school without being afraid and without being stigmatized ”.
Contacted, the academic direction of the national education services (Dasen) did not wish to comment on the case of the Lapierre school. For the time being, the teacher in the CE1 class has gone on “personal leave”, her students are divided into other classes while waiting for a replacement.
