Bad surprise. On the morning of Monday, November 29, 2021, the silo of an incinerator installed on the site of the Mirail Thermal Exploitation Company (SETMI) to Toulouse bent at the base during a deposit operation.
An established security perimeter
Since then, this high silo 25 meters and containing 130 tonnes of waste ash threatens to sag. “This incident did not cause any injuries and remains confined within the site of the company”, announces the prefecture of Haute-Garonne.
Faced with this situation, the company Veolia, which operates this installation, calls on the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS) of Haute-Garonne. A security perimeter of 60 meters around the silo has been established inside the company premises.
The operator “has also pre-positioned a water curtain intended, if necessary, to contain the ashes in the event of subsidence”, specify the State services.
Upcoming security operations
“A measurement device has been set up by the SDIS in conjunction with the operator to monitor the silo,” continues the prefecture, which announces that security operations will take place on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 in the presence of the firefighters.
In the meantime, the activity of the incinerator continues at reduced load.
