Thessaloniki: The surgeries at Ippokratio stopped
The lack of ICU covid beds forced the medical staff of Hippocrates in Thessaloniki to stop the surgeries and to transfer the patients who were to be operated on in private clinics. They are already in Northern Greece Deputy Minister Mina Gaga and Secretary General of Health Services Giannis Kotsiopoulos.
It is worth noting that this morning, the director of the anesthesiology department of Hippocrates informed the management of the hospital that all operations of the surgeries are suspended, because there are 12 patients in the area due to coronavirus.
According to a document published by the “Journal of the Editors”, all scheduled surgeries are canceled, even emergency surgeries, and in the department where there are only two anesthesiologists as safety staff for patients or for cases of life and death.
We remind you that Ippokratio is the flagship of the city’s hospitals, the largest hospital in Northern Greece and as we write in today’s edition, at the end of the vigil on Sunday, doctors were forced to rescue patients in a common ward.
According to the information, there is already a flow of orthopedic cases to the private sector. This development will naturally affect all the hospitals in the city and reactions are expected during the day.
