From December 2024, he will operate the existing S49 line from Hostivař to Roztoky and the new S61 line from Vršovice to Běchovice for the next 15 years. It will purchase 7 new low-floor electric units with a capacity of at least 230 passengers. The current unsatisfactory motor trains will run on the S49 line.
The carriers RegioJet, České dráhy and ARRIVAy took part in the competition. RegioJet won with a transport performance price of CZK 215.50 per train kilometer. The annual value of the contract is CZK 162,335,935. Compared to the original assumption, we managed to win the final price about a third cheaper. The new electric trains with barrier-free access, a first-class compartment, equipped with a wifi line and full-vehicle air conditioning will depart in December 2024.
“In addition to the first city railway line S49 from Roztoky via Podbaba, Holešovice to Hostivař, another S61 train line from Vršovice via Zahradní město to Běchovice will be added within three years. Operating two lines will be much more efficient. Today, one of us costs over 91 million crowns a year with old vehicles. The new two lines will cost 162 million crowns a year with completely new vehicles and significantly improved comfort. We can look forward to 7 new trains that will run around Prague. The kits will not smoke. State-of-the-art motorbikes are replaced by electric and less noisy vehicles. All will be air conditioned, with Wi-Fi and, unlike today, with a low-rise entrance through all the doors. Everyone will be able to take the train around the city if they wish. A first class section will also be available. At the same time, all trains on city lines will have European ETCS signaling equipment. Safety comes first, “said Adam Scheinherr, Prague’s deputy mayor and transport councilor.
The intention to quickly connect the outskirts of Prague by rail has been there since 2002. In 2004, the first city railway line S41 between Libní and Roztoky was issued, which was gradually extended to Hostivař and thus changed its designation to S49. A new Prague-Eden train station has been in operation since December 2020, and a neighboring Prague-Garden City bus stop was opened in September 2021.
For the needs of the new line S61, which will connect Vršovice with Běchovice in a record 23 minutes, a new 4th platform has already been completed in Vršovice and four completely new stops Depo Hostivař, Kyje-Jiráskova čtvrť, Jahodnice and Hostavice will be created, their completion is planned for 2024. and are projected from a grant from the capital. The construction of the 4th platform in Vršovice was also co-financed by Prague.
“Both city train lines will run for 30 minutes on weekdays and 60 minutes on weekends. In the future, it is possible to expand the operation, shorten the intervals and extend both lines within the options. The S49 line could run as far as Říčany and the S61 line as far as Smíchov and on the other hand as far as Úval, ”adds ROPID director Petr Tomčík.
