“Salzburg Schokolade” broke, many jobs were shaky
business
The renowned Mozartkugel manufacturer Salzburg Schokolade in Grödig (Flachgau) is insolvent. The company filed the application with the regional court on Monday. More than 100 jobs are at stake. How things will continue for the employees is still open.
Salaries and wages for November have not yet been transferred, according to Grödig. The municipality and the Chamber of Labor confirmed the bankruptcy on Monday.
The company at the foot of the Untersberg, for example, has been producing the internationally known “Mirabell Mozartkugeln” for more than 70 years. The “Salzburger Mozarttaler”, along with many other sweets, have also been part of the range for a long time.
The bankruptcy application is a shock for the workforce and for Salzburg as a business location. It was not foreseeable, recently even new employees were hired, it is said in the community. Job advertisements on the company’s website are evidence of this. In any case, the flow of information from management for the employees was very poor, was heard from the workforce. There are still no official statements from the works council and ÖGB. Negotiations are still going on.
“Czech subsidiary not affected”
A provisional insolvency administrator will soon decide how the company will proceed. One hopes for a continuation, it said on Monday in an email from the management to customers and partners. More than a hundred employees are affected who, shortly before Christmas, do not know how to proceed for them.
Meanwhile, the company emphasizes that the subsidiary of Salzburg Schokolade in the Czech Republic will not be affected and will continue as normal. In Salzburg employees were instructed to use up the raw materials available during production. This is currently only taking place with supplies.
“Mirabell Mozartkugeln” since 1948
The traditional Grödig company was only taken over by a group of investors seven years ago. New brands were introduced in 2016. And three years ago a confectionery distributor was taken over. The focus was on increased growth.
The historical roots of the company go back to the 19th century. In the “economic miracle” after the Second World War, things took off for the company. Internationally known “Mirabell Mozartkugeln” and other special specialties have been produced at the Grödig location since 1948, with which they had great success.
