Raised ground floor – planning & urban development
More green, more cooperative settlements: the new Zurich West.
A master’s thesis shows how the dismantling of the motorway spur could create new and affordable living space in the fragile Zurich district. The work will be discussed in Zurich on Friday.
Three students from the Technical University of Munich dedicated their master’s time to Zurich West; After semesters of design, they also chose the fragile Zurich district as the subject of completing their work. These, summarize Tim Keim, Joris Allemann and Spyros Koulouris, show in the wo, as with the dismantling of the motorway exit SN 1.4.1 in Zurich West ensemble can be further developed. The interdisciplinary team was supervised by Benedikt Boucsein, Professorship for Urban Design, and Alain Thierstein, Chair for Spatial Development.
At the end of this week, the team will present its design in Zurich. The three young planners want to “stimulate and support the discourse about a further transformation of Zurich West, about cheap living and also about the design of public space.” After the presentation of the master’s thesis, Yoo Na Ho from KCAP will speak on the subject of urban transformation, after which Alain Thierstein will discuss with Andreas Wirz (Archipelago), Yoo Na Ho (KCAP) and Philipp Klaus (Kraftwerk 1).
Suggestions from Tim Keim, Joris Allemann and Spyros Koulouris.
