The intervention of the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR) caused the increased concerns for the freedom of the Press in Greece.
The fiscal union will launch an online mission in early December to investigate the issue of press freedom and the safety of scribes in the country.
The investigation will be led by the Center for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) and will be conducted with its MFRR partners and representatives of other international press freedom groups.
The delegation met with a number of domestic stakeholders, including journalists and editors, journalists’ associations, citizens and academics, as well as representatives of government and state institutions.
The aim of the mission is to better understand the basics and to help develop solutions to the challenges facing media outlets.
The Caribbean assassination
The motive for the investigation seems to have been the murder of journalist George Karaivaz and the limited progress of the investigation into his death.
The union will also take into account the numerous attacks on journalists, the interventions faced by journalists specializing in immigration, including the monitoring by state authorities, the copy of the recent changes in the penal code on so-called “fake news” and problems. with “weak media pluralism”.
The MFRR is made up of seven of the largest journalistic associations in the world (ARTICLE 19, the European Center for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF), the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ), Free Press Unlimited (FPU), the Institute for Applied Informatics at the University of Leipzig (InfAI), the International Press Institute (IPI) and the Osservatorio Balcani Caucaso Transeuropa (OBCT) and aims to monitor violations of press and media freedom in EU Member States and candidate countries and responds with practical and legal support and defense.
Since the launch of the project in March 2020, similar missions have been organized in Montenegro, Poland, Serbia, Spain and Slovenia.
