Hip hop. Portugal is world champion in the sport
A Portuguesa was heard at the Municipal Stadium of Agen, in France. The reason? The Portuguese dance group from PRÓXIMA school wins the HIP HOP Unite World Championship.
After taking second place in the same competition in 2018, this year it was Portugal’s turn to become world champion in the “Mega Crew Cadets” and “Mega Crew Adults” categories, with the flag of the NEXT Dance School, located in the Miratejo area, on the south bank of the river that gives the town its name.
In the case of cadets, the podium was completed by teams from Denmark and the Netherlands, respectively, while, in the adult category, second place went to the Belgians, and third place to the Dutch.
PROXIMO is a dance school located in Almada, which for over 10 years has been dedicated to teaching and practicing dance, namely in Hip Hop and Street Dance.
The hosts are led by Lara Alves, mentor of the project with a degree in Physical Education, which welcomes dozens of young inhabitants from the Miratejo area, with the aim of focusing their passion for dance in this school, and who have now become world champions. Lara Alves, incidentally, discovered the taste during a trip to the United States, and is now the main mentor of this project.
Among other aspects, the school mainly develops “artistic training classes, oriented towards Urban Dances, whose main objective is to train the student as a dancer and person”. “The artistic experience, mediated by dance, presupposes participation in a Show, an extremely rich process for the development and training of the student as a dancer, not only for the technical issue itself but also for learning to manage strong emotions related to public performance ”, It can be read on the school’s website.
In addition to the training aspect, a PROXIMO has its own dance company, “found by professional dancers and selected elements of the Training School”, with the full aim of designing and conducting shows.
This is, as the school itself defines it, “a complex process that implies the fulfillment of a demanding schedule and timetables for rehearsals”, requiring from the dancer “in addition to a high technical level, great delivery and concentration”. “Union, Humility, Dedication, Passion, Work and Innovation are principles by which this work group is governed” the school also fires.
