The United States expelled another 27 Russian citizens
Moscow – Russians complain about the revocation of their spouses’ visas and the fact that the children of diplomats have not been granted entry permits.
Another 27 Russian diplomats have been expelled from the United States, Russian ambassador Anatoly Antonov told Solovyov Live YouTube.
According to the head of the mission, the diplomats will travel with their family members on January 30, while another 27 U.S. diplomatic staff will have to leave their posts on June 30.
Antonov stressed that Russian diplomatic missions are struggling with a shortage of cadres. He complained that the revocation of the spouses’ visas and the fact that the children had not been granted entry permission had led to the break-up of families. “I do not understand the purpose of separating the families of Russian diplomats,” the ambassador said.
Antonov complained that the US side continues to view Russia as an adversary and that US officials want to discuss only Moscow’s “aggressive” policy along the western Russian borders, which makes it difficult to shape bilateral relations. He believed that Washington was trying to excuse Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s failure by constantly mentioning the Russian “threat” to Ukraine.
Speaking to the HCLU on Sunday, Leonid Slucky, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian lower house, said:
he is confident that Moscow will provide an appropriate and proportionate response to the move.
In response to previous expulsions of Russian diplomats and sanctions imposed on Russia, Moscow restricted the use of Russian citizens to the U.S. embassy in Moscow in April. Since August 1, the representation has 120 employees, the lowest number in five years; In 2017, they were ten times as many. Referring to the decline, the issuance of all other U.S. entry permits except diplomatic visas has stopped in Moscow.
Russian foreign spokeswoman Marija Zaharova said Russia had about 200 diplomats in the United States at the end of October, but that number also includes staff from the UN Permanent Representation.
