Weather: Salzburg snow hat under control
The weather in Austria remains inconsistent for the next few days. An up and down of the forecast temperatures of the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG). At the weekend, “yellow” snow warnings were sometimes issued for parts of the country with an increased risk of accidents on slippery roads. From Saturday evening to Sunday lunchtime, amounts of new snow of ten to 20 centimeters could come together in places, and in some places even up to 30 centimeters.
Fresh snow at the start of the week in Salzburg
With a north-westerly to north-westerly current, the clouds build up on the north side of the Alps on Monday and it snows again and again. In the south and also in the east, apart from the mountains, there is hardly any precipitation. Here it loosens up at times, especially in the south the sun shines longer. The wind blows moderately to briskly from west to northwest, in the area of the Tauern the wind blows partly with a foehn. The early temperatures will be minus seven to zero degrees, the maximum daily temperatures minus one to plus five degrees.
Warm front on Tuesday
Embedded in a north-westerly high-altitude current, a warm front moves in from the west on Tuesday during the day. In the south and east there are still a few sunny sections, mostly cloudy to overcast. In the Nordstau it snows away from morning. With the warm front rising from midday, the precipitation spreads to the entire west and north, but the snowfall line rises to 500 to 1,000 meters above sea level. There is little wind in the south and south-east, otherwise brisk to strong westerly winds blow. Early temperatures minus eight to zero degrees, in wind-protected valleys on the south side of the Alps even below, during the day a temperature increase of one to six degrees is expected.
Snow line is rising
On Wednesday, the air pressure rises temporarily from the west and intermediate high influence prevails. Especially in the north and east, however, the day still starts with residual clouds and at times it rains a little. The snow line continues to rise, from around 1,000 to noon to 1,500 meters. Otherwise it is already dry and at times sunny. In the course of the day, however, the weather improves everywhere and temporarily sunny weather prevails, but in the evening cloud fields of the next fault zone appear from the northwest. Initially in the north and east there is a lively to strong westerly wind, during the day this weakens and the wind turns more and more often from south to south-west. Early temperatures minus two to plus five degrees, in the weak south it is significantly colder, the maximum daily temperatures will be two to nine degrees.
Snow again from Thursday
The next fault zone lies over Austria on Thursday and brings dense, dense clouds as well as rain and snowfall. The snow line drops again to 600 to 800 meters above sea level by evening. At first it is still a little sunny only in the southeast, but also here it starts to rain in the afternoon. The wind blows weak to moderate from the west. Early temperatures minus four to plus four degrees, maximum daily temperatures one to nine degrees, the warmest is in the initially sunny southeast.
Along the north side of the Alps, Friday starts with residual clouds and at times it is still snowing, and cloud fields are also over the southeast. Gradually, however, the fault zone moves to the south-east and very sunny weather prevails everywhere as the air pressure rises. The wind is still blowing moderately from west to northwest in the east, otherwise it is rather weak wind. Early temperatures minus eight to plus one degree, maximum daily temperatures minus two to plus five degrees.
