The capital city of Prague as a place to live? Republican below average, analysts report
In the national comparison, Central Bohemia surpassed the Zlínský, Vysočina, Jihomoravský, Královéhradecký, Jihočeský and Plzeňský regions. And the capital city of Prague? It is located six places lower. On the 13th, penultimate position: between the Karlovy Vary and Ústí nad Labem regions. However, the Central Bohemian Region improved slightly compared to last year: in 2020 it was eighth. On the contrary, the evaluation of numerical data in Prague brought Prague, when last year the capital ranked first.
What makes them better elsewhere? The leading Zlín region scored above all with low crime. Unemployment is also low. On the contrary, the region has a high number of beds in social services facilities; there are plenty of doctors and pharmacies. Local universities, both public and private, are very attractive – on the contrary, they would deserve to improve the capacity of primary schools.
Middle Bohemia? Something between Liberec and Vysočina!
According to the evaluation, the Central Bohemian Region also has a number of advantages. “Middle-aged people do not have a problem with employment (the unemployment rate remains very low compared to other regions), average wages are very high and net income per household member is the same,” Pavlát reminded. He also appreciated how people think about ecology here: in the amount of recycled waste per capita, the amount of discharged wastewater is not high. “Locals are interested in municipal politics, at least as evidenced by the very high average turnout in municipal elections,” said Pavlát.
The Central Bohemian Region can be included in the area of investments in environmental protection, the size of areas per capita – and I thank the fact that many people perceive crime in their surroundings as a problem, the average is the average and the conversion of crime per thousand inhabitants. Analysts point out that this is an indicator that could certainly be improved if the police officer is significantly below average.
The spread of covid in the region? Central Bohemia is one of the better regions
The Central Bohemian results in the school-leaving examinations – and also in the field of healthcare – call for improvement. In terms of the number of doctors and dentists per thousand inhabitants, Central Bohemia is the worst of all the regions in the country. “The region is not much better off even with the number of hospital beds,” Pavlát remarked.
As a “place to live”, however, the Central Bohemian Region clearly leads according to what we might perceive as a public vote – or more precisely: specific actions of the public; the best people about their own lives. Residents of other regions who have decided to combine their lives with Central Bohemia have been moving to Central Bohemia for a long time and on a large scale. The most recently published data of the Czech Statistical Office show that in the first half of this year alone, the population increased by 8,555 people due to migration.
What is the purpose of the evaluation?
– Comparative research A place to live for the eleventh year in a row, it has been mapping the quality of life of the inhabitants in the individual regions of the Czech Republic.
– Research offers the opportunity to monitor the state of the region and its development in the long term. The results motivate and inspire the state administration and local governments, non-governmental organizations, entrepreneurs and citizens, and thus lead to the improvement of conditions affecting the quality of life.
– The assessed data are based on data from the Ministries of Labor and Interior, the Statistical Office, the Vehicle Register, the Monitoring Center for Drugs and Addictions, the Hydrometeorological Institute, Czechinvest, the Nature Conservation Agency or public transport operators. The authors assessed 600 criteria. The new ones also assessed the business environment and the public administration’s approach to entrepreneurs, according to 28 criteria.
– For many people, a functioning civil society, intergenerational respect and tolerance of differing views are often more important than material goods. The organizers of the Place for Life project also try to point out these values and draw attention to their importance.
