First residential community for youth welfare in Lungau
Social
The first socio-educational residential community for children and young people from Lungau has been set up in St. Margarethen (Lungau). Six children can be looked after there. There are two crisis areas for acute cases. The operators are now urgently looking for male supervisors as well. Five women are already on duty.
In St. Margarethen, the nun caregivers work shifts around the clock to look after the living group. So far, other young people in need of such help have always been housed outside the district.
Urgent men wanted as supervisors
Three more social pedagogues are still being sought for St. Margarethen, says managing director Kurt Lackner of the Salzburg association “Rettet das Kind”: “We now have five supervisors on duty here and are feverishly looking for supervisors. Because our children and young people also need caregivers of a male nature. “
It is a converted farmhouse in which the new residential community for children and young people has found its place.
Voluntary or judicial induction
The children are between six and 13 years old, says the manager Lackner of the operating association: “We are there for children and young people who are assigned by the youth welfare office. There are voluntary cases where parents or children turn to the youth welfare office.
17 children are still housed away from home
For the Lungau, the shared apartment is a significant improvement in care, according to the child and youth welfare of the Tamsweg district authority. 17 children from Lungau are housed in childcare facilities in other Salzburg districts.
