The Scheldecross of Antwerp next Sunday, the ninth round of the Cyclo-cross World Cup, will not start from the new corona wave. Public is still allowed, but organizer Golazo is wary of the extra measures that will be imposed.
After a thorough evaluation of the parties involved agreed: a full international evaluation of the massive audience attendance and of the and ambiance. With the current plans, the World Cup Cross in Antwerp will become a bland decoction of that,” the organization said in a press release.
“Cyclocross in Antwerp lives from the public and it is traditionally a meeting place for all Antwerpers who love cyclocross and atmosphere”, says Christophe Impens of organizer Golazo. “But to ensure safety and health, we want to impose a full additional measure that is fully verifiable.”
What about the other Golazo crosses?
“That tent applies to the public along the course, but formed in the atmosphere tent, all the more in the VIP. It is not an obvious decision, but the City of Antwerp understands it in view of the situation and the changed measures,” said Impens.
Golazo’s calendar still has plenty of cyclocross races until the end of the season. Impens: “We are waiting for the next federal consultation committee on 15 December. along with the decisions being made there, we will plan our next fields in close consultation with the local government.”
