The 2G rule applies to the Christmas markets in Lower Saxony. Visitors must also wear a mask. But not all of them stick to it.
During controls on Saturday, the police in Hildesheim did not find any violations of the 2G rule – but quite a few against the mask requirement. At the Christmas market she had to die in 70 cases due to missing mouth and nose covering, sometimes several times. Administrative offense proceedings have been initiated. Because even vaccinated and convalescent people are only allowed to lift the mask briefly to eat or drink at Christmas markets in Lower Saxony.

According to the police, there were also a number of violations in the state capital – especially at the Christmas market in front of the main train station. That was also due to the fact that the obligation to wear a mask was not clearly indicated there, it said. A total of around 600 people were made aware of the mask requirement on the various in the city center. According to a police spokeswoman, proceedings were initiated in 65 cases. Five stand operators are also being investigated. A visitor expects a trial because he did not have a 2G certificate in the market in the old town and was not wearing a mask. Previously, he had chanted the pandemic in denial. Mostly, however, people could react positively to the controls, it said.
Many Christmas markets have failed
All Christmas markets in Lower Saxony have already been canceled. And the Lower Saxony Association of Towns and Municipalities continues to be critical of the crowds, despite the strict requirements. Association president Marco Trips told the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung that much smaller events were no longer taking place at the moment. Presumably, the markets would have to be canceled in general.
