Willem-Frederik Schiltz may be alderman in combination with Flemish… (Antwerp)
Willem-Frederik Schiltz (Open Vld) may combine an alderman’s office in Antwerp with his protagonist as a Flemish Member of Parliament. The members of Open Vld City of Antwerp decided this today in an internal vote.

Whether Willem-Frederik Schiltz (Open Vld) will effectively become ships in Antwerp remains to be seen. The members of the Antwerp branch of Open Vld have given prior approval to combine that office with his head as a Flemish Member of Parliament. The party met today. 73.9% of the members gave the green light. In the statutes of the party it is stated that if there would be cumulation, this must always be done with the approval of the members.
“I am extremely honored that the Antwerp Vld members have the confidence to take up the alderman’s mandate and to give me influence on giving Antwerp interests to continue to be in Brussels,” says Schiltz. “I have a great desire to fly in and to dedicate myself even more to the Antwerp resident.”
There is therefore a great deal of support among the members for Schiltz as alderman of the city of Antwerp. However, it is not yet certain whether it will be effective. The current Liberal alderman, Claude Marinower, must stop as aldermen by the end of this year, as agreed in the negotiations for the administrative agreement in 2018. For now, Marinower has refrained from making any comments.
During the negotiations for the administrative agreement in 2018, it was agreed that Vooruit would have three aldermen and Open Vld one. From 2022, the socialists will transfer one office of alderman to the liberals. Vooruit then falls back on two ships and the Liberals get one more and thus come to two. For example, it is already certain that municipal councilor Erica Caluwaerts (Open Vld) will become alderman.
