Unaccompanied Iraqis are often reluctant to return home: Iraq is also reluctant to accept them
After the concert was demolished a few days ago, the migrants were sent to Poland. A similar case was recorded for the first time in Lithuania – migrants with metal scissors cut a concert. However, while some are looking for new ways to enter Lithuania, the authorities are considering what to do with those who have already entered.
“We have a very clear plan,” Laurynas Kasčiūnas, Chairman of the Seimas National Security and Defense Committee, commented on.
40 migrants have not been granted asylum even after the complaints have been examined.
“India, Sri Lanka, Egypt, for example, are really easy to return. It may be more difficult with Iraq, “L. Kasčiūnas admitted.
The majority of these migrants are Iraqis. They do not want to return home even with a payment of 300 euros and a plane ticket. And those who do not want to give up do not want Iraq.
“It simply came to our notice then. For many governments, that protest is for people who may not be satisfied with their social life, so if they leave, they may be better off, ”L. Kasčiūnas commented.
I. Šimonytė does not agree that the search for such an Iraqi policy and the return of migrants will be stalled.
“It simply came to our notice then that we might be persuaded to return. That process is long and I would not say that this message is a point, “the Prime Minister commented to reporters in the Seimas on Thursday.
Iraq receives a significant amount of financial assistance from EU countries. Its leaders have accounts in community banks and business connections, so A. Bilotaitė promises to work through the EU.
“It is obvious that the highest level of involvement is already needed here, and our European institutions are working on the issue of Iraq accepting those who not only agree to return voluntarily, but also those who are forcibly returned,” said A. Bilotaitė.
The number of migrants wishing to return home has dropped significantly recently. Over 200 returned voluntarily and over 50 forcibly.
“What is the plan – to increase the amount of money a little, and it may not cost Lithuania at all, because there is also European support – they support this initiative. The EU is also considering strengthening the reintegration of those who have already returned to their countries of origin. For example, to issue a loan so that they can create a future there, ”commented L. Kasčiūnas, Chairman of the Seimas NSGK.
And for now, the return of migrants is stalling. Lawyer Petras Ragauskas says that in this case Lithuania is cornered.
“To whom, here bribes, will the money now go to bribe Iraqi officials for admission?” If Iraq really does not want to, it needs to talk to the Iraqi authorities. If not directly, these are other intermediaries who can do it – the European Commission is the US institution that can have more influence, ”LNK commented the lawyer.
According to Bilotaitė, the fact that Europe has succeeded in persuading Iraq to stop better in Minsk shows that relations are improving and the problem will be solved.
“These processes probably don’t happen very simply, step by step. Of course, it must be acknowledged that there were already good things for that, ”said the Minister.
However, Iraq wants to get some people back. The Lithuanian authorities have already identified a number of individuals involved in terrorist organizations. Among them were Iraqis.
“If that person is affiliated with an organization that is anti-government, then the government is apparently interested in those people who, against them, who are radical against them, control and examine what they do and what networks there are,” L. said. Kasčiūnas.
At the time, Mr Lukashenko was blackmailing Europe into paying for the return of migrants. It is said that after receiving the euro, Belarus would like to transport them.
“Let the Europeans pay, they are scoundrels too – we have given you money: millions, thousands. We didn’t get a kopeck. The Red Cross and everyone else – so far we are feeding and watering these people at their expense. This is very important for us, “Lukashenko said.
According to the ministry, the return of migrants, the days they have identity documents, can take anywhere from a few to several months.
