The situation with the virus in Bulgaria is desperate – ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Health
Comment on Facebook by Dr. Asparuh Iliev, vaccine safety expert, head of a laboratory in Bern:
The situation with COVID-19 in Bulgaria is desperate, but we are handing out medals. It reminds me of two guys in my neighborhood who, after the fifth pick, start patting each other and come back “You’re a big deal”, “No, you’re a big deal” … so, in short – COVID-19 is raving undisturbed, and the only reasonable measure was to limit the attendance at school – congratulations to Minister Denkov.
The other big news that excites everyone outside Bulgaria (in the homeland anxiety of a different nature, we know that COVID-19 in our country does not exist) is the new version of the virus – V.1.1.529. Interestingly, several new options start from South Africa, it is worth understanding what is different there from other regions. With the security of the suspension of flights from the region of Africa is the best solution, as well as from Hong Kong. The mutations are very focused on the original version – 32, the origin is already being traced. As has been done in the past, so now, it is believed that the virus originated from a patient with suppressed immunity, in which the virus was not cleared in time and went through a series of mutations. That’s why you have the article for another year in NEJM – with suppressed immunity is a kind of incubator in which the virus develops. The new variant has been found in single patients in Hong Kong, Belgium, Israel and has been reported to dominate Botswana.
Worryingly, the case in Belgium has returned from Egypt, which is very far from the official region of Africa, where an option is described. Tips for misuse of cases in Africa I suspect this option is more common than I think. It is high time we thought about a common European system for the genetic analysis of micro-organisms – it is similar in different countries, but we can significantly speed up the pandemic monitoring process if we are coordinated and sampled across the EU at airports, stations and elsewhere. . It is also good for the data to be processed automatically in the general register. Pandemics are an inevitable part of life, we had 30 years of peace without big pandemics, but everything is changing.
Let’s wait to continue spreading this option without panic. We must imagine the COVID-19 pandemic as one the sea of the many variants that have different characteristics, they probably also have many short-term variants, which can “suffocate” a wave. Until then, universal measures such as distance, masks and good ventilation will never betray you.
Postscript: AIDS could certainly be one of the explanations for South Africa. What I want is to forget that everything is far from us and does not affect us – everything affects us, we are all connected like loaded vessels. Only complete isolation would help protect us from disease and infection. This is an option, but I still want to think that we are a little smarter and I have alternatives. Unfortunately, I do not think that at this stage Bulgaria has real mechanisms and understanding to deal with new pandemic waves, soon my hope is in the EU.
