Maignan back in Milan’s goals on Sunday against Sassuolo
The French international returns to competition against Sassuolo on Sunday.
AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan of France will resume competition against Sassuolo on Sunday earlier than expected after suffering a wrist injury in October, coach Stefano Pioli announced on Saturday.
Maignan, who has a selection for the France team, had been absent since mid-October after injuring the ligaments of the left wrist.
The Milan club then announced that he would be on the sidelines for 10 weeks after his operation. However, Pioli told reporters the 26-year-old goalkeeper will be in the starting squad for the league game at San Siro on Sunday as Milan try to keep pace with Serie A leaders Napoli.
“Mike is fine, he has been training with the team since (last Saturday)», Said Pioli.
“He will play tomorrow, I’m happy with the performance of Tatarusanu (the substitute goalkeeper), but Mike will be back tomorrow», Added the technician.
Pioli, who on Friday signed an extension of his contract at Milan until June 2023 with an option for an additional year, also said England defender Fikayo Tomori was close to returning from a hip problem.
“He’s not ready yet but could be back for Wednesday’s game (in Genoa)», Explained the Rossonero coach.
