Friedrich triumphs in the two-man bobsleigh in Innsbruck
World cup
Innsbruck (dpa) – Record world champion Francesco Friedrich has retracted his 55th World Cup victory. As in the previous week, the double Olympic champion from BSC Sachsen Oberbärenburg won the two-man bobsleigh World Cup in Innsbruck / Igls ahead of Johannnes Lochner.
This time, however, with a different pusher: Alexander Schüller was allowed to run his long-time resident regular pusher Thorsten Margis. In the second run, the duo set the fastest time to start in 5.09 seconds and relegated Johannes Lochner from Berchtesgaden and Christian Rasp, who started for Stuttgart, to second place thanks to a 0.36 second lead.
«Despite the problems at the start with the light barrier and the delays, we push again really well. Our team is well positioned, so it can go on », said Friedrich. At Lochner, too, everything didn’t go optimally, so he was happy about his second place again: “Anything can happen in a snow race, it’s like a lottery,” said Lochner on ZDF and emphasized: “At some point I’ll get him this season . “
Third in light snowfall was Canadian Justin Kripps, who was Olympic champion in Pyeongchang with Friedrich at the same time. Christoph Hafer from BC Bad Feilnbach finished sixth with Matthias Sommer.
Laura Nolte wins in the monobob
Winterberger Laura Nolte raced from sixth to second with a furious final run. The world championship third in the two-man and monobob was only beaten by US pilot Elana Meyers Taylor, who saved her lead from the first run with five hundredths of a second to the finish. Third place went to Australian Breeana Walker. Wiesbaden’s Kim Kalicki came in twelfth. Mariama Jamanka from BRC Thuringia landed in 16th place.
