A perfect surprise – Austria Klagenfurt inflicts its first BL defeat on series champions Red Bull Salzburg

On Saturday, the match between Austria Klagenfurt and Red Bull Salzburg was on the program in the 16th round of the Admiral Bundesliga. The climber out Carinthia inflicts the first defeat in the domestic championship on the series champion. In the end, the Klagenfurters celebrate a 2: 1 (1: 0) home win!
The game in the first half can be summed up in a nutshell: Red Bull Salzburg had more of the game, but remained in the “last offensive third” without penetration. Only in the first few minutes were the “cops” on the trigger. In the fourth minute, Klagenfurt goalie Menzel was unable to capture a shot from Aaronson. Adeyemi could not use the rebound, however. The German international was falsely called back here because of an offside position. Camara tested Klagenfurt goalie Menzel (5th) with a long shot for 60 seconds. On the other hand, Austria Klagenfurt was anything but fearful or defensive. The Carinthians put the first warning shot through Rieder in the 16th minute. The first hit came after exactly half an hour. The hosts succeeded in doing this. Cvetkovic prevails in a rustic, but rule-compliant, duel against Solet. As a result, Pink runs a counterattack in the direction of the opposing goal. The striker maintains an overview, serves the Gemicibasi who ran along with him and he deliberately hits the 1-0 lead (30th). Four minutes later there was the next setback for the guests. Central defender Solet would have made an own goal in the 34th minute. In the closing stages, Red Bull Salzburg had two good opportunities. In the 40th minute, Adeyemi skidded the ball just wide of the Carinthian goal. The ball wriggled in the goal for 120 seconds. After a cross from Kristensen, goal scorer Sesko was in an offside position.
After the break, the game played largely uneventfully. The guests had more of the game, but they lacked the final punch and – as in the previous games – the playful esprit. More than one shot by Aaronson (51st) and a dangerous header from substitute Adamu (63rd) were not worth mentioning. 60 seconds later, the hosts were lucky. After a foul by goal scorer Gemicibasi against substitute Sucic from referee Grobelnik on the penalty spot. The VAR intervened because the foul game was very close to the penalty area line. So there was “only” a free kick, which Adeyemi puts just over the goal (67th). Then he put Sucic again with two shots for exclamation marks (68th, 72nd). The host is much more effective on the other side. With the first conclusion after the break, Austria Klagenfurt scored the second goal. Greil puts the ball through to Pink. He breaks away from his opponent, pulls away and scores to make it 2-0. Salzburg goalie Köhn looked anything but “good” or even “happy” in this situation. Anyone who expected “constant pressure” or “opportunities on the assembly line” from the guests was disappointed. On the one hand, because Austria Klagenfurt was very intelligent defensively and, on the other hand, because the bulls continued to lack punch. In the 88th minute, the Mozartstädter should have scored the next goal. After a cross from Kristensen, Adamu just missed the ball. In stoppage time, the guests managed to improve their results. Kristensen hit the short corner from around five meters to make it 2-1 (91st).
The home win of Austria Klagenfurt Feld in the end under the heading “sensational” was not undeserved. The Carinthians were very solid defensively, put a few pinpricks offensively and were the more effective team. On the other hand, Red Bull Salzburg again delivered a mixed performance. The cops seem physically and mentally tired in Klagenfurt. This means that the people of Mozartstadt must return home without gaining points.
