Two young men stole 330 gas bottles in 20 coups – indictment in Salzburg
It is a bizarre case of burglary: two now accused Bosnians stole gas bottles in a row. Deposit value of the stolen property: 15,500 euros.
The Salzburg public prosecutor’s office has now filed a criminal complaint against two serial burglars who had confessed in the preliminary proceedings and who had specialized in unusual loot: The two Bosnians (20 and 26) stole no less than a total of around 330 gas bottles between the end of May and the beginning of November 2021. According to the criminal complaint, the duo invaded Salzburg, Upper Austria and Styria a total of 20 times in gas trading companies, in tool and machine shops or in a company selling barbecue equipment.
“By climbing over fences or entrance gates,” said the public prosecutor, burglars who had arrived in a van then let empty, but also (half) full gas bottles go with them. Background: when returning gas bottles with a deposit, a deposit value of usually around 50 euros per bottle can be achieved. In the specific case, according to the criminal complaint, this results in around 15,500 euros for around 330 bottles, which the duo should have earned when the looted objects are returned to gas stations or warehouses. They broke in seven times at a gas trading company near Linz, always stealing between ten and 16 bottles; At a company in Tennengau they took 45 bottles with them in one night; at a company in the Hausruckviertel at least 50 for two break-ins.
Also remarkable: the duo, the 26-year-old WILL be defended by lawyer Kurt Jelinek, was caught red-handed in another coup in Tennengau in July and then reported at large. Regardless of this, the nun defendants continued their break-in tours shortly thereafter. Ultimately, they were arrested in the city of Salzburg in mid-November and then taken into custody.
