The occasion is given by the dialogue focused on the role of volunteering and on the future of the Third sector after the crisis caused by Covid-19, on which Professor Emanuele Rossi and Doctor Luca Gori of the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and the Maria Eletta research center Martini reflected and debated together with other jurists in the volume “Ridefinire il voluntariato” (Pisa University Press).
“Returning to Pisa also to open up to the community makes me particularly happy, above all because the topic addressed concerns us closely and, in the last year and a half, has affected most of us, namely the
volunteering and the world of the Third sector – explained the president Valerio Martinelli, also as secretary of the Legal and Legislative Observatory of the Tuscan Episcopal Conferences, which co-organized
the initiative – the place where we met, as well as the people we involved, are not by chance: the I Cappuccini Center is a home for volunteers and those who accompanied us during the evening know this reality, as a scholar or from experience on the field”.
The first to speak was the Archbishop of Pisa Giovanni Paolo Benotto, followed by the Deputy Mayor Raffaella Bonsangue. Then, with a video, Federico Gelli, who had just been appointed director of Tuscan health care by the regional council of Eugenio Giani, also brought his greeting. The two were then joined by Marcello Suppressa, regional delegate of Caritas, and Paolo Martinelli, president of the provincial Acli of Pisa, who enriched the discussion with their associative experience, with particular attention to what happened in the most complicated months of the pandemic.
“I am very happy that the Osc and the Tuscan Legislative Observatory have been the tools to liven up the debate on this issue – concluded Martinelli – I hope it is only the first step of a broader and more shared path”.
