Nürensdorf: man arrested after hours on the roof
On Thursday evening, shortly before 5 p.m., a 61-year-old man reported to the operations center of the Zurich canton police that he was having an argument with his son in his apartment and that he had been threatened with a knife by him. The man was able to get to safety in front of the house.
The deployed patrols of the Zurich canton police tried to contact the named man, a 38-year-old Swiss, in the apartment. He had barricaded himself in a room and then fled to the balcony. He did not respond to the shouts of the police and climbed onto the roof of the building via a neighboring balcony and a canopy. The man, armed with a knife, removed the roof tiles from the house and threw them, some of them dozens of meters in the area. For security reasons, several residents of the house are evacuated and the area around the house is cordoned off over a large area. About 30 parked cars were damaged.
Specialists were called in by the operations management. The negotiating group of the Zurich Cantonal Police was able to communicate with the man on the roof. At around half past twelve he could be arrested by members of the task force diamond and other police forces. With the help of the fire brigade, the man was taken from the roof, medically examined and transported to a police station. The knife was seized. No one was injured during the police operation. A woman who was initially in the apartment was transported to a hospital for control.
Because of the incident, Die Alte Winterthurerstrasse had to be closed until after two o’clock. The fire brigade traffic group sets up a diversion. In addition to the Zurich canton police, the Altbach and Bassersdorf fire brigades, the Kloten base with a turntable ladder, Schutz & Intervention Winterthur with a jump rescuer and rescue vehicles from Schutz & Rettung Zurich, as well as the Uster and Bülach hospitals are in action.
