New world rugby league kicks off this Saturday in Lisbon
The Rugby Tens Championship, the new world rugby league of 10 that will be launched in Lisbon, on the 27th and 28th of November, already has a defined game schedule.
The competition for professional teams starts this Saturday at 13.00, at the Estádio Universitário de Lisboa, with a group stage. First to take action are the San Clemente Rhinos against the Balkan honey badgers, by the ladies. The teams all play against each other in the group stage, to define places in the playoffs (semi-finals and finals), which will be played on Sunday, from 11:00 am.
The Academy (training) games are combined as early as 11:00 with a group stage. Also the playoffs, which decide the winner of each tier, will be played on nomingo.
The four participating clubs are San Clementes Rhinos, Cape Town Wild Dogs, Serengeti Elephants and Balkan Honey Badgers.
Each club has a professional male and female team, as well as a male and female Academy (training) team.

The launch of the Rugby Tens Championship will bring professional players from over 30 countries on six continents to Lisbon.
In Portugal, Rugby Tens will be organized by Move Sports, with the support of the Portuguese Rugby Federation (FPR).
This new league “is the first competitive rugby format in the world to have equality in the financial aspect, as well as in the competition format, dates and places of play”, highlights the organization of the R10C.
The circuit will consist of four stages, in Lisbon, Paris, Cape Town and Las Vegas, with the winner being the franchise with the most points in the combined results of the men’s and women’s teams throughout the competition.
The teams will feature professional rugby players ‘sevens’, ‘tens’ and 15s, from countries like “New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, USA, Ireland, Kenya, Sweden, South Africa and Portugal”, explained one of the co-founders of competition, Willem Strauss.
“It will be an important international event for the development of young and promising players, promoting cultural exchanges between players from different cultures and with their best technical qualities. Portugal and the city of Lisbon welcome all participants with open arms ” , highlighted the president of the FPR, Carlos Amado da Silva, cited by the organization.
