Lustenau and Sterzing end series from Jesenice and Salzburg

EHC Lustenau won the HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice’s winning streak in the Alps Hockey League thanks to a hat trick from Max Wilfan on Friday evening finished and after a 7: 4 victory he is the first pursuer of the Slovenes. The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan also became the end of a winning streak. After five successes in a row against the Broncos, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors are beaten 1: 2 after a penalty shoot-out.
Lustenau moves on Jesenice’s heels
The EHC Lustenau was not only able to expand its own winning streak to four games, but also end the seven-game winning streak of HDD SIJ Acorni Jesenice. With the 7: 4 success, the Vorarlbergers climbed to second place in the table and reduced the gap to the Slovenian leader to four points. The guests from Jesenice got off to a strong start and after just under four minutes they were already leading 2-0. Lustenau scored the connection goal in the starting section before Max Wilfan was able to equalize at the beginning of the middle third. In the same section, Jesenice regained leadership twice, but the hosts equalize immediately. A double from Wilfan – his second and third goal of the evening – gave Lustenau the third first lead at the beginning of the final section. The Slovenes could not fight back and die Vorarlberg finally prevailed 7: 4.
Broncos end Salzburg’s streak
The Wipptal Sterzing Broncos were not only able to end the five-game winning streak of Salzburg, but also to win again for the first time after six defeats. After a goalless third of the start, it was the Red Bull Hockey Juniors who were able to take the lead. In the final section, Niklas Salo managed to equalize for the extension. After this too went goalless, Salo made the decision in the penalty shootout. While Salzburg missed the chance to further reduce the gap to the top of the table, the Broncos climbed to 13th place.
