anti-Covid measures reinforced in schools
The Government Council decided on Friday to strengthen the testing system in schools across the country. From a case of infection in a classroom, the mask will have to be worn again during lessons. Quarantine rules are also evolving.
The coronavirus is hitting schools again. Thursday, the Ministry of National Education announced that since the start of the September school year, 2,234 infections have been identified in basic education and 1,204 cases in secondary education, including teachers. A clear increase in positive cases has been observed since the week of November 8.
To avoid a school closure, the government decided to react. Meeting in Council this Friday, the ministers gave the green light to a reinforced health system for schools.
Strengthening the test
Pupils in cycles 2, 3 and 4 of basic education will be able to be tested no longer twice, but three times a week. Parents in the cycle get a third self-test per week to do at home.
The parents of students will receive in the coming days a new certificate of consent through the class teacher or the class regent. As soon as the consent certificates are sent, the appropriate sanitary device will be applied in the classroom.
Return of the mask
The protective mask makes a comeback in lessons from the first infection of a student in a class. The mask should be worn for at least a week.
It should be remembered that wearing a mask is and remains compulsory outside the classrooms, either in the corridors of the school building and in school transport.
From a positive case in a class
Implementation of reinforced daily testing at school for a period of 7 days:
- students who are neither vaccinated nor recovered will need to be tested every 24 hours to avoid quarantine.
- vaccinated or recovered students are not quarantined and can participate in the enhanced test.
- Students who are neither vaccinated nor recovered who do not submit to the enhanced test are quarantined. The quarantine is negatively lifted a certified PCR test from the 6e day after the last contact with the person tested positive (test carried out on the order of the Health Inspectorate).
From three positive cases in a class
- Vaccinated or recovered students are not quarantined.
- Students neither vaccinated nor recovered are quarantined. The quarantine is lifted a certified PCR test. negative from 6e day after the last contact with the person tested positive (carried out on the order of the sanitary inspection).
Positive cases in cycle 1 of basic education
The health system in force remains applicable:
- No mask for the students.
- An isolated case in the classroom: exclusion from the classroom in the school building.
- Two or more cases in the class: quarantine without authorization to leave.
“We take the current increase in Covid cases in the population seriously. National Education intends to make its contribution to the common effort.
Rapid self-tests in schools are an effective measure, particularly for the population who cannot yet be vaccinated, ”explains Minister Claude Meisch.
