An incredible solar eclipse is forecast in Portugal… when?
For these days, all eyes landed on the solar eclipse of December 4, 2021, but which will not be visible from Portugal and Europe. In fact, will only be visible from Antarctica. As we have already explained, there are many difficulties in watching this fascinating astronomical phenomenon, both logistical (getting to Antarctica is neither easy nor cheap…) and those related to meteorology, due to extreme dates and cloudiness. The question many of us ask is: when will a total or partial solar eclipse be visible in Portugal and Europe?
The partial eclipse of the Sun of October 25, 2022
Note this data: October 25, 2022. Less than a year to go, but on that day there will be an important event: a partial solar eclipse in Europe. The percentage of obscurity of the solar disco by the Moon will be higher in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. In Helsinki obscurity will exceed 50%, in Kiev it will be 51%, in Stockholm 46% and in Bucharest 40%.
Total solar eclipse in December 2021: who can see it?
Obscurity will be lower in Central Europe (in Berlin the sun’s obscurity will be 32%, while in Paris and London only 13 and 15%). In the Iberian Peninsula we will have to wait for the next eclipse, since next year will be practically unnoticeable in Spain and Portugal.
August 12, 2026, almost total solar eclipse in Portugal!
We will have to wait a few more years for a spectacular solar eclipse in Europe, but it will be worth it! On August 12, 2026, a total solar eclipse will be visible from north-central Spain, the Balearic Islands and Iceland., while in other areas of the continent – especially in the center and west – it will be partial, with a very high percentage of obscurity, well above 2022. In Portugal the percentage will be over 90%!
On August 12, 2026 a total solar eclipse will be visible from Spain and Iceland. In other parts of Europe the eclipse will be partial, but the spectacle will be assured because the obscurity will be too pronounced.
The total solar eclipse of August 2026 will be visible first in Iceland, then in Spain and the Balearic Islands. This will happen in the afternoon, almost at sunset.
It is predicted that in Lisbon, as in the rest of mainland Portugal, the eclipse will be almost total (over 90% obscurity) and that close to 5:40 pm, ending at 7:30 pm. Even at a greater distance, the Azores will continue to see an eclipse with more than 70% obscurity.
In Spain, the eclipse will be visible in all cities such as Oviedo, Valencia, Barcelona and Zaragoza, Palma de Mallorca and Bilbao, and also in Segovia, very close to Madrid. In the Spanish capital, however, the obscurity will be very high, but the eclipse will not be total.
The first total solar eclipse in Europe since August 11, 1999
It will be the first visible total eclipse in Spain since 1905, and the first on the European continent since August 11, 1999. Outside Spain, obscurity will be partial but still very significant, surpassing 90% in several regions.. The most affected areas will be Ireland, Great Britain, Portugal, France and Italy.
2 August 2027, a spectacular eclipse in the Mediterranean
Not a year after the historic 2026 solar eclipse, another solar eclipse will provide a great show in southern europe. It will be the eclipse of August 2, 2027, and this time the observation will be better in southern Spain, Portugal and Italy. Also enjoy the event in North Africa, from Morocco to Tunisia.
the eclipse will be total in the far south of Spain, bringing the night to Andalusia, from Malaga to Cádiz, but also to Seville (98% obscurity) and Granada (99%). In Portugal it will be impressive in Lisbon, with more than 92% obscurity, and in the region to do Algarve (more than 98%).
The annular solar eclipse of June 1, 2030
AN June 1, 2030 at 06:29:13 UTC there will be a annual solar eclipse, which will be visible mainly from Algeria, Tunisia, Greece and Turkey. An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon is near its apogee and its angular diameter is smaller than the solar. In this way, a ring of light is visible around the lunar disk.
June 21, 2039 and November 5, 2059
To find other total or partial solar eclipses with significant coverage in Europe, it will take a few years. The eclipse of June 21, 2039 will be visible mainly in northern and eastern Europe, while the total eclipse of November 5, 2059 will be visible from Italy and France: it will be total over Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica and southern France, although you can also enjoy the spectacle in some parts of Catalonia and the Pyrenees.
