Since the beginning of 2021, only Covid-19 vaccines have been used in Liechtenstein by
Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna used for primary and timed vaccination. These vaccines prove to be highly effective. The vaccination reliably protects against a severe course even beyond six months. Individual protection is also guaranteed. Due to the very high number of cases and the associated risk of overloading the health system and because the vaccination protection against infection decreases over time, the government has extended the mask requirement for vaccinated and genesis patients and attaches great importance to a quick refreshment.
In Liechtenstein, 4,413 residents have so far tested positive for Covid-19. Within the last seven days alone, 382 cases were recorded, which leads to an average of 54.6 cases per day and a 7-day incidence extrapolated to 100,000 inhabitants of 986.
Booster vaccination program started successfully
In the risk group, the protection against severe disease progresses less quickly. Accordingly, people over 65 years of age and people with previous illnesses receive a booster vaccination as a top priority. In Liechtenstein, residents in retirement and nursing homes were therefore given the opportunity to have a booster vaccination. These vaccinations in the respective homes could be completed on November 25th. In addition, the booster vaccinations have already started for people over 80 years of age. This population group is vaccinated locally in the communities.
Offer for people between 65 and 79 years of age
People between 65 and 79 years of age are called up for vaccinations in the new vaccination center in Mühleholzpark in Vaduz. All people in this age group will receive a personal invitation to refresh themselves within the next two weeks with an appointment by telephone. In addition to residents over 65 years of age, people with previous illnesses as well as health professionals and staff in outpatient and inpatient care are given the opportunity to receive a booster vaccination.
Offer for people under 65 years of age in preparation
The Swiss regulatory and control authority for therapeutic products, Swissmedic, has approved booster vaccinations with the Moderna vaccine from the age of 65, and those with the vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech from the age of 16. It can be assumed that the recommendation for the Moderna vaccine will be extended to younger people in the short term. The booster vaccination takes place with the same vaccine as the first and second vaccination, six months after the second vaccination at the earliest.
The government has stressed that the general population under 65 years of age who received a second vaccination at least six months ago should die as quickly as possible for one
Should receive a booster vaccination. The stated goal of the government is that these booster vaccinations can be carried out before Christmas. “We are working at full speed on the booster vaccinations. Not least because they can slow the epidemiological development and dampen the current very high incidence of infections,” said Health Minister Manuel Frick.
