Viana Christmas lights flash for visitors from Northern Portugal and Galicia
The Christmas lighting in Viana do Castelo, switched on since November 6, is attracting visitors from all over the North of Portugal and Galicia.
With the objective of consolidating demand, the City Council and the city’s Business Association, today, one month before the festivities, dissipate a program that will run continuously until January 9th. They also announced that, with the same purpose, they will invest in a communication operation to “attract new audiences in Galicia, Braga and Porto”. The investment this year in Christmas entertainment is, according to the Mayor, Luís Nobre, of “more than 300 thousand euros” and represents “the greatest effort ever”, with a view to “affirming Viana as a Christmas destination” .
At a press conference this morning to present the program “Viana, Coração do Natal”, the leader of the Viana do Castelo Business Association (AEVC), Manuel Cunha Júnior, said that the city’s lighting is attracting Galician tourist operators. “Over the weekend, seven buses (bridge) from Galicia have elapsed to watch the lighting show”, he added.
As has been customary in recent years, a Christmas decoration from Viana includes a 3D Christmas tree and daily multimedia shows in the city centre. The entertainment and the games of lights synchronized with music take place on Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra, near the lighted tree, about 30 meters high, in Praça da Liberdade. In the latter, the multimedia show takes place every day at 6.30 pm, 7.30 pm, 8.30 pm and at 9.30 pm.
The Christmas lighting will remain on, this year for a longer period, until January 9, 2022.
