The Netherlands remains attractive for international graduates
More than half of international students plan to stay in the Netherlands after graduation. Despite the corona crisis, these are about the same as last year, internationalization organization Nuffic reports.
Nuffic has circulated a questionnaire through various channels to international students who enrolled in September. So the organization is keeping a few tricks up its sleeve.
little change
From the research In any case, it appears that 57 percent of the respondents want to stay in the Netherlands after graduation, to work or to do further studies. Students from outside the European Economic Area, who are strongly represented in the survey, are a little more certain: 59 percent of them want to stay here.
Half of this has not yet been calculated in the Netherlands in January 2021, Statistics Netherlands calculated earlier. In the pre-corona years, this share – a year after graduation – was about the same.
High standard of living
The high standard of living and the quality of research and education are the main reasons to stay. Those who want to leave cite their limited job opportunities, the tight housing market and the Dutch corona policy as the reason.
Internationals who, as a result of the corona crisis, are based on their home country succeed (40 percent) then complete at least part of their education in the Netherlands (60).
from before research Nuffic knows that graduates are more likely to remain in shortages. This applies to technical studies and to a lesser extent to education and health studies.
